Let me tell you something as we start the show<\/span>
\nIt’s a little something I thought you should know<\/span>
\nSo I will tell you as we settle into place<\/span>
\nIt’s impossible to sing and play the bass<\/span><\/p>\n

You’re a lovely group of people you deserve the courtesy<\/span>
\nOf knowing what you can expect of me<\/span>
\nI have practiced but it will not mean a thing ’cause<\/span>
\nIt’s impossible to play the bass and sing, sing, sing<\/span><\/p>\n

You see the bass is different it’s not like a guitar<\/span>
\nOn bass you spend your whole life wondering where the<\/span>
\nhell you are<\/span>
\nIt’s got no little markers just a fingerboard so bare<\/span>
\nAnd lots of notes that often are not there<\/span><\/p>\n

Then when you start singing you’ve got lyrics on your mind<\/span>
\nAnd the notes on bass become impossible to find<\/span>
\nTo remember lyrics melodies bass lines and chords<\/span>
\nIs no less a miracle than Lourdes<\/span><\/p>\n

Do do do do do<\/p>\n

So as I make a thousand errors sit there and be kind<\/span>
\nDo not throw tomatoes at me keep this all in mind<\/span>
\nRemember this is serious remember this is art<\/span>
\nRemember this or I will fall apart<\/span><\/p>\n

Oo oo oo oo oo<\/p>\n

Then I’d have to pray to God to come and intercede
\nAnd He’d only sit and laugh – SIGH – PAUSE<\/span><\/p>\n

And she’d only sit and laugh at my wanton greed<\/span>
\nShe made the rules for molecules atoms time and space<\/span>
