[C] If you visit [G7] American City,\u00a0 you will find it [C] very pretty. [C7] Just two things of which you [F] must beware, [C] Don’t drink the water and [G7] don’t breathe the [C] air.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[Am] Pollution, [G] Pollution, They got [F] smog and sewage and [E] mud, [F] Turn on your [C] tap, to get [G7] hot and cold running [C] crud.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[C] See the Halibuts [G7] and the Sturgeons being wiped out [C] by detergents. [Am] Fish gotta swim, and [Dm7] birds gotta [G7] fly. But [C] they don’t last long [G7] if they [C] try.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[Am] Pollution, [G] Pollution, You can [F] use the latest tooth- [E] -paste. [F] Then rinse your [C] mouth with [G7] industrial [C] waste.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[C] Just go out for a [G7] breath of air, and you’ll be ready for [C] Medicare. [C7] The city streets are really [F] quite a thrill, if the [C] hoods don’t [G7] get you, the [C] monoxide will<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[Am] Pollution, [G] Pollution, Wear a [F] gas mask and a [E] veil. \u00a0 [F] Then you can [C] breathe, long as [G7] you don’t [C] inhale<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

[C] Lots of things there that [G7] you can drink,\u00a0 but stay away from the [C] kitchen sink.\u00a0 [C7] Throw out your garbage and [F] I’ve got a hunch.\u00a0\u00a0 The [C] folks [G7] downstream will [C] drink it for lunch. <\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

So [Am] go to the [G] city, see the [F] crazy people [E] there,\u00a0 [F] Like lambs to the [C]slaughter,\u00a0 They’re\u00a0 [Am] drink-ing the [C] wa-ter and [Dm7] breathing\u00a0 [COUGH]\u00a0<\/em> the [C] air.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
